I think the old man was not mentally ill. If he was mentally ill, he couldn’t tell the true things. He couldn’t produce coherent sentences. In this text, the old man talked about past in order. He also wanted to talk about the future of the traveler. Both of them talked harmoniously.

    You have provided the wrong answers of (a) and (f) - Choose the Correct Options.

    Check the teachers’ guide book also, provided by ministry of education.
