Comprehension

Answer the following questions

a.   What is a hyperloop? How does it work?

A hyperloop is an ultra high speed ground transportation system for passenger and cargo. It works easily and quickly in low pressure tubes, either above or below ground

b. How is hyperloop more beneficial than the traditional trains?

Hyperloop a more beneficial than the traditional trains because it is quicker, economical and cheaper than traditional trains.

c. Does hyperloop have a successful history? How?

No, it doesn't have a successful history as the idea of developing hyperloop was limited to the wagon and pneumatic tubes to send mail and packages between buildings.

d. Write the contributions of Robert Goddard and Elon Musk for the development of hyperloop.

Robert Goddard has proposed the concept of 'vactrain’ which was One clear predecessor of the hyperloop. Elon Musk, an entrepreneur who has proposed the concept of Hyperloop Alpha paper in August 2013, which set out how a modern system would work and how much it would cost.

e. What relation does speed have with air resistance? Explain.

Speed has very close relation with air resistance. If there is air pressure, the speed may not be high. For example, airliners climb to high altitudes to travel through less dense air; in order to create a similar effect at ground level, hyperloop encloses the capsules in a reduced-pressure tube, effectively allowing the trains to travel at airplane speeds while still on the ground

f. What are hyperloop capsules compared with? How are they similar?

Hyperloop capsules compared with air hockey game. They are similar to the way that the puck floats just above the table on an air hockey game.

g. How do the passengers feel while travelling via hyperloop? What will be done to make it luxurious?

The passengers feel about the same as riding in an elevator or a passenger plane while travelling via hyperloop. To make it luxurious, beautiful landscape will be displayed in the cabin.

h. Why does the writer doubt about the success of hyperloop? What does the success depend on?

The writer doubts about the success of hyperloop because of the investment i.e. a huge multibillion dollar. The success of hyperloop depends on the destinations, local economics, and geography.

Critical thinking

a.      Is the hyperloop the future of transportation or just a dream? What do you think? Justify your opinion with. suitable reasons.

Hyperloop is not a dream. It is the future of transportation. If some people think it as a dream, I suggest them as positive dreams are the main source and roadmap for future invention and development. The concept of 'vactrain' has been developed by Robert Goddard early in the twentieth century which is the clear predecessor of the hyperloop and Elon Musk who has really reignited interest in the concept with his 'Hyperloop Alpha' paper in August 2013, which set out how a modern system would work and how much it would cost. Now a days, people are quite busy. They want to do and go to their offices or service field very quickly like the click of computer. Scientists and inventors are also interested to invent the machine or devices which can be faster than the previous. Bullet trains are faster than ordinary trains but the people as well as scientists are not satisfied with the speed of it. They are thinking about the invention of the means of transportation which can be faster than bullet trains. Air transportation is also risky. So, in my opinion hyperloop is the future of transportation.

It is said that the project of hyperloop needs a large amount of investment. Investment is not the matter for developed countries. They can easily invest huge amount of money to fulfil the desire and for the betterment of the citizens. Because of these reasons, hyperloop can be the future of transportation.

b. The number of private vehicles is increasing day by day in Nepal beyond the capacity of our infrastructure. What do you think should be done to curb the ever-growing number of private vehicles? Discuss.

The number of private vehicles is increasing day by day in Nepal beyond the capacity of our infrastructure. The capacity of the road is limited. Nepali citizens are more fashionable too. Most of the young people are in developed western countries so those families whose member is in overseas have high purchasing power. They buy personal vehicles in Nepal. In the recent years, more and more people are able to afford the personal vehicles. There are many advantages of having personal vehicles. They help to save time and to keep privacy. But at the same time, they create negative and bad effects too. They increase environment pollution, traffic jams and road accidents. There are other problems too. The infrastructure of roads is insufficient to bear the capacity of increasing numbers of vehicles. The government and the concerned authorities should pay attention to this issue.

The following activities should be done to curb the rapid growing number of private vehicles:

Firstly, people should be encouraged to use public means of transportation such as buses, trains etc. Secondly, the existing roads should be expanded on both sides. Wide roads help to reduce the intense pressure of the vehicles. Thirdly, the governmental offices of transportation and concerned authorities should restrict the use of old personal vehicles.  Lastly, importing private vehicles should be discouraged. This may decrease the number of private vehicles.

To discourage using private vehicles and to promote the use of public transportation, the government has to take action and initiation. At the beginning stage it is quite challenging to prevent people for using and purchasing personal vehicles. If good awareness campaign is conducted, people may stop purchasing private vehicles. For this, all should be loyal. The government and citizens should act collaboratively. Citizen’s support is necessary for government and government’s support is necessary for citizens.
